$200M Stifel Advisor spins off to launch RIA

Financial adviser Lock Bingham has left Stifel Financial to start his own registered investment adviser. He recently founded Bingham Private Wealth, a San Francisco RIA with approximately $200 million in client assets.

Bingham spent the past 10 years at Stifel, most recently as a senior vice president. Before that, he was with Sterne Agee. Principal Customer Service Associate Ali Bradshaw and Senior Customer Service Associate Walter Santander join him. The firm specializes in multigenerational family and charitable giving strategies.

Bingham said he decided to go out on his own to improve customer interactions.

“With complete independence, I really have the ability to shape the client experience as best for my clients and the way we're managing assets and how we're doing financial planning that's unique to what we do, he said.

He also liked the option of being multi-custodial. The RIA currently uses Charles Schwab and CNB Custody, a division of National Community Bank, for alternative assets. The firm also uses Morningstar and Black Diamond as technology vendors.

“We can adapt as needed to whatever the customer needs,” he said.
