Starbucks is giving away a free gift today

Starbucks is spreading some eco-conscious joy by handing out a colorful gift that's practical and earth-friendly — a free reusable straw. This Wednesday, customers will receive this sustainable gift when they order any handcrafted cold drink.

Movement is more than just a gift; it's a step forward in the coffee giant's ongoing journey toward sustainability and a smart tactic to boost sales after a less-than-stellar financial quarter. Live and reusable straws are available at Starbucks locations in the United States and Canada. They are designed to fit snugly with the lids of Starbucks cold cups and most reusable cold cups. Available while supplies last, customers can grab their straws at the cafe or through orders placed through major third-party delivery services like Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub – ensuring even those who prefer to enjoy their fix of caffeine from home can participate in the promotion.

Starbucks said goodbye to disposable plastic straws in 2020, opting instead for eco-friendly biodegradable versions and innovative 'liquid cup' lids. The latest promotional push isn't the first time Starbucks has enticed customers with gifts; The annual giveaway of red plastic cups during the holiday season has become something of a festive tradition. Starbucks' new CEO, Laxman Narasimhan, is steering the company toward a greener future. In keeping with its leadership, the chain is debuting new cold cups that aim to minimize plastic use by 20%. In doing so, Starbucks supports its ambitious goal of halving waste and carbon emissions by 2030. The brand's effort to phase out plastic support is emblematic of a larger trend that sees companies striving for sustainability by reducing consumption of materials derived from fossil fuels.
