Pay-on-death (POD) or transfer-on-death (TOD) accounts are tools used in the estate planning process to provide simple administration and avoid probate procedures upon the death of the account owner (POD and TOD are collectively referred to for simplicity as POD accounts).1 The POD statutes allow the account owner to implement a POD registration, but do not require it.
