Dell defends its Apple-sounding rebrand, new PC brand names


Dell is removing XPS, Latitude and Inspiron names that have been around for decades, and instead calls most of its new PCs into three broad categories: Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max.

Dell announced the change Monday at a press conference ahead of CES, the consumer electronics show that runs this week. According to Bloombergattendees at a conference immediately exclaimed that Dell's naming system was identical to Apple's. Apple has used the words Pro and Pro Max to separate the higher-priced iPhones more prominently from the rest since the iPhone 11 line.

One attendee reportedly asked why Dell “didn't go for something original, because you basically have the Apple brand here.”

Another said Dell's naming choices were “very” like Apple's. “Aren't you just following them?” they asked.

Dell reportedly defended its rebranding, with executives responding that no one owns the words “pro” or “max” and that those are universal terms.

Dell chief operating officer Jeff Clarke said the move to change the names resulted from extensive research involving “tens of thousands” of people.

Dell is introducing seven new laptops under the names Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max and will launch them by the end of February. according to PCWorld. vein says that the Dell Pro Max line is for maximum productivity, Dell Pro is for professionals and Dell is for “play, school and work”. Each category has three additional subcategories: Base, Plus and Premium.

Dell says its new branding “puts the highly trusted Dell name front and center” across all three brands and simplifies the process of buying a PC. IN a press releaseDell CEO Michael Dell called the new offerings a “new, streamlined portfolio.”

Dell will continue to sell existing computers it has already launched in previous years under the XPS, Inspiron and other brands. Once these older models are discontinued, they will be replaced by newer ones under the Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max brands, according to threshold. Only Dell's Alienware line will retain its name after the rebrand.

Dell had a market cap of $86.16 BILLION at the time of writing.
