The test flight comes a month after its mega-viral fifth test flightwhere the SpaceX team successfully saw off its Super Heavy booster return to the place of departure and to be caught by the “wings of the stick” at the first attempt.

What's New for Starship Test Flight Six?

The 30-foot-wide, 397-foot-long missile will launch with the same goals as the fifth warship, “to expand the ship's envelope and booster capabilities and approach the reusability of the entire online system.” according to SpaceX.

The company says the objectives of this flight “include returning the booster to the launch site for capture, restarting a Raptor shuttle engine while in space, and testing a set of heat shield experiments and maneuvering changes for shuttle reentry and descent over the Indian Ocean.”

SpaceX notes that this flight also has “hardware upgrades” and “updated software controls” with “several thermal shielding experiments and operational changes will test the limits of the Starship's capabilities and generate flight data to inform capture plans and the reuse of vessels”.

Will there be a seventh test flight?

SpaceX says on its website that there will be more test flights “with significant improvements including redesigned front lamps, larger fuel tanks and the latest generation plates and secondary layers of thermal protection as we continue to iterate towards a fully reusable heat shield”.

The new dates have not yet been made public.
