The most sought-after skills to put on your resume for remote work


Percentage of people working mainly from home there almost tripled globally, from 10% in 2019 to 28% in 2023. Online freelancing is also the most popular holiday side hustlewith 66% of Americans indicating that plan to follow that this season.

What exactly are employers looking for from remote hires? A new study from the SEO agency Search Logistics used data from LinkedIn, Upwork and Glassdoor to find out more required skills between employers.

For each popular skill, the researchers calculated a percentage of demand using LinkedIn. The measure reflects how much remote work required skills for all remote jobs available on LinkedIn.

The researchers then used Upwork's data to populate the general job category that each skill fell into. Finally, they turned to Glassdoor's data to find the average annual salary for those who possess every skill.

The resulting list of the most in-demand skills for telecommuting includes interpersonal skills such as teamwork and technical skills such as Java.

“It's no surprise that teamwork, problem solving, leadership skills and customer service are in the top 10,” says Search Logistics chief executive Matthew Woodward. “These skills are useful in basically any industry or position you can think of, so if you're stuck on how to improve your job performance, building your skills in any of these skills is a great place to start. .”
