Although Costco's business model thrives on a retail experience, the company isn't shying away from technological improvements to its current online experience.
During a third quarter 2024 call earnings with investors, CFO Gary Millerchip fielded questions about how the chain will be “more aggressive” with technology investments, from expanded online shopping options to in-store pickup to “putting more technology” in stores, including the use of drones and robots in warehouses.

“We are working on all of these aspects now. We are opening an expanded online shopping warehouse,” Millerchip said. “This will always be limited in scope based on the volume in our warehouses that we have.”
Millerchip also said the chain is working on expanding the range of items it sells, including larger electronics.
“We can't expand into all categories, but we're expanding as we speak currently into televisions and other electronic items that are out there. And so, yes, we see that as a real opportunity for us,” Millerchip said. “Technology is going to be one of our top priorities moving forward. . . . You know, we see a great opportunity for data. We've expanded our group there. We have a significant program now with retail media.”
