Managers asked workers to quit because of back-to-office mandates: Report


It's no surprise that back-to-office mandates leave some employees reeling — many workers don't want to give up their work-from-home setups and start commuting again.

A new report from Bamboo HR found that roughly 25% of VPs and C-suite executives hoped that implementing strict back-to-office policies would help drive “voluntary turnover” among employees. Meanwhile, 28% of remote workers surveyed reported that they would consider quitting their jobs if mandated to a five-day-a-week work pattern.

Bamboo HR referred to this concept as a “holiday in disguise.” However, about 40% of executives and managers surveyed said they had to implement a round of layoffs within the past year because fewer employees are leaving than expected after new terms in office.

“This level of dissatisfaction can lead to a further drain on talent, affecting not only morale, but also the stability and innovation potential of the workforce,” the study said of employees unhappy with the mandate to return in office.

The back-to-office debate has been top of mind at major companies, including AmazonTesla and Salesforcewhich will require a designated employee in the office four to five days per week beginning October 1st.

According to Table birdabout 90% of US companies with office space will return to office work by the end of 2024.
