Smarsh announces partnership with OpenAI


Smarsh has been named among eight eDiscovery and Data Loss Prevention companies that OpenAI chose to integrate with as part of first compliance partnership program and introduction of its Enterprise Compliance API.

The eight firms serve clients in regulated industries, including finance, healthcare, legal services and government, and must comply with regulatory filing and auditing requirements.

ChatGPT Enterprise is a commercial version of OpenAI's ChatGPT built specifically for business use. It includes enhanced features and capabilities such as administrative tools, advanced security, increased usage limits, and analytics.

Smarsh is a leading provider of digital communications capture, archiving, surveillance and electronic discovery within the brokerage and RIA industries.

Its integration with OpenAI aims to simplify the ChatGPT Enterprise data synchronization process in support of compliance-related activities, particularly for the financial services sector, including archiving, audit trails, data editing and storage, and policy implementation.

This means companies using ChatGPT Enterprise can easily sync their data with Smarsh's compliance features and tools.

“There is great customer value in being able to not only capture content from ChatGPT compliantly, but have that content automatically added with an 'AI-generated content' tag,” said Kim Crawford Goodman, CEO of Smarsh.

She said this should help financial institutions adhere to expected AI regulation, which will likely require organizations to distinguish between human-generated and AI content and maintain different policies for each.

In addition to Smarsh, other companies in the partnership included Forcepoint, Global Relay, Microsoft Purview, Netskope, Palo Alto Networks, Relativity and Zscaler.

While the partnership with OpenAI may be new, Smarsh has significant history and experience in artificial intelligence acquired pioneering machine learning and natural language processing technology company Digital Reasoning in 2020.

Within a year, Smarsh had brought natural language processing and machine learning technology to the the next generation of its communication intelligence platformallowing it to analyze written and spoken communication data.
