Guy Bardone's Terraces and Mer- Chora, Patmos sold for $2,432 at the Doyle At Home auction on April 24, 2024, in New York City. A French painter, Bardone was known primarily for his bold and colorful palette, use of light and sense of movement. His best known works depict landscapes and still lifes, painted using his thick brush marks.

Born in Saint-Claude, France, Bardone was inspired by the French countryside, which is a frequent subject of his paintings. After completing his art studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, France, Bardone decided to expand his artistic horizons and traveled through Europe with fellow painter René Genis.

Bardon's big break into the mainstream art market came after he was awarded the prestigious Prix Félix Fénéon in 1952. The following year, he was also accepted to exhibit at the Musée Galliera in Paris. These achievements served as Bardon's gateway to popularity; his works gained international acclaim and are held in numerous public and private collections around the world.

Bardone's paintings continue to hold their value, with Terraces and Mer-Chora, Patmos, a stunning depiction of the Greek island surrounded by the sparkling Aegean Sea, selling for over $1,000-$1,500 at auction.
