The United States Postal Service has proposed several rate changes that could go into effect in the summer of 2024.
These rate increases include raising a first-class stamp from 68 cents to 73 cents. The overall proposal amounts to an increase in all household name services by 7.3% of current rates.
US Postal Service raises rates
These changes will come into effect on July 14, 2024, if approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission.
Icon Postal says the potential new pricing was necessary “As changes in the postal and delivery market continue, these pricing adjustments are needed to achieve the financial stability required by Delivering for America's 10-year plan. Pricing of the USPS remain among the most affordable in the world.”
The Postal Service's 10-year Delivery Plan for America was announced on March 232021, and set the stage to accomplish “the transformation of the United States Postal Service from an organization in financial and operational crisis to one that is self-sustaining and high-performing.”
The modernization campaign is now in its second year and the institution has published retrospective papers on progress in 2002 AND 2023.
These changes are as follows:
- Papers (1 oz.) will increase from 68 cents to 73 cents
- Papers (measuring 1 oz.) will increase from 64 cents to 69 cents
- Domestic postcards will increase from 53 cents to 56 cents
- International postcards will increase from $1.55 to $1.65
- International paper (1 oz.) will increase from $1.55 to $1.65
The US Postmaster General has made some unpopular comments since being installed by the former US administration. He once said that American consumers will must “Get used to uncomfortable” rate hikes.
The Postal Regulatory Commission will review the fee changes which can be found on the commission's website under Daily Listings Section.
